Student and Environmental Advocate and Activist, Protect Our Future
Dejea Lyons was born and raised in the beautiful Cayman Islands. Growing up here in the Cayman Islands fostered her deep love and concern for the environment. Dejea began advocating for the environment in 2019 when she first attended Ocean Heroes Bootcamp. Thereafter, she went on to become the Vice President of youth led organisation Protect Our Future. During her time with the organisation, Protect Our Future successfully lobbied to prevent the construction of a cruise berthing facility that would have decimated local reefs and created social media campaigns to educate locals on pressing environmental issues. Dejea was also a student representative that sat on the 'Oceans Panel' at COP26 offering insights into the environmental plight of these territories, many of which are substantially vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Dejea has decided to make this passion her career as she is now studying Global Development & Sustainability at Bath Spa University in the UK.
