David Lang

David Lang serves as the Senior Director of Global Policy & Affairs at Optica (formerly OSA), a leading nonprofit organization with a membership of 23,000, based in Washington, D.C. Since 2018, he has headed Optica's advocacy and public policy programs. Prior to his role at Optica, David spent 14 years contributing to the mission of the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, where he participated in more than 20 projects spanning various scientific domains, including space and Earth sciences, energy, physics, and telecommunications. David holds a Master of Engineering and Public Policy, a joint degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a specialization in energy policy and technology. His academic background also includes a Bachelor of Science in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
